Indian Snacks Onion Bhaji
Onion Bhaji is one of the most favorite and popular snack of India. It consists of savory vegetable combination in a crisp and spicy batter. It can either be served as a snack or as a side dish with curries.
You can also use vegetables like okra, cauliflower or brocoli other than onion. Onion Bhaji is a tasty Indian snack also sold by street vendors and can be eaten any time of the day.
Ingredients for Indian Snack Onion Bhaji
- 2 large onions
- 2 cups gram flour
- 1/2 tsp chilli powder
- 1 tsp ground turmeric
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp asafoetida
- 1/2 tsp each nigella,fennel, cumin and onion seeds, coarsely crushed
- 2 fresh finely chopped green chillies
- 2 cups chopped fresh cilantro
- vegetable oil for deep frying
How to prepare Indian onion bhaji
Slice the onions into thin rounds. Separate the slices and place them aside on a plate.
Mix together the flour, chilli powder, ground turmeric, baking powder and asafoetida in a bowl. Add salt to taste. Pour this mixture into a large mixing bowl.
Now add the coarsely crushed seeds, onion slices, chopped chillies and fresh cilantro. Toss them together well.
Make a paste by adding enough cold water. Now add in more water to make a thick batter to coat the onions and spices.
Add oil in a pan or karahi for deep frying. Pour in a spoonful of the mixture into the hot oil and fry the onion bhaji till they turn golden brown. Turn the bhaji after some time . Drain them and serve hot.. This dish makes 20-25.
You can also use okra, cauliflower and borocoli in the batter.
